Wedding Cake Tips
Inspiration
Wedding books, magazines, and even friends' wedding can give one
inspiration when it comes to designing one's wedding cake. Write down
these ideas and verbalize them to the baker you decide to hire. Also
provide the baker with information about other aspects of the wedding,
such as the degree of formality, the estimated number of guests and the
wedding colors.
Play the Field
Before committing to a baker, sample cakes in a variety of flavors
from each baker. Bakers are more likely to give you a deal in order to
be more competitive. Baker may be booked months in advance, so start
the search early.
Contracts
Avoid a wedding cake disaster by creating a written agreement. Be
specific. Include all the details, including type of frosting, topper,
delivery date, cost, lace and flavor. The baker also needs to know the
contact information for a person at the reception.
Cake Costs
Expect to spend approximately $3 per slice of cake. Cut costs by
ordering a smaller or less elaborate cake. For a less traditional
wedding, bake cupcake-size cakes for each guest.
Cake Presentation
Display the cake in a location that does no obstruct the view of the
main table at the reception. Lay a decorative cutting knife aside the
cake.
